Prescience'07 was a Corporate Seminar, organized by Symbiosis Institute of Computer Studies and Research at Symbiosis Vishwabhavan on 8th October'07. Prescience stands for 'an insight' and the event true to its name gave the audience valuable inputs on the IT scenario in the banking domain.
The event was presided over by the founder director of SICSR,Padmashri S. B Majumdar, M S Raste vice Chancellor SIU, Mr Kiran Laturkar (Director SICSR), Mr. Ashish Shah ( Deputy Director) and was followed by Mr. Majumdar's enlightening speech on “the importance of IT”, which became a perfect launchpad for the speakers to come and speak their mind on the wonderful platform given by the Symbiosis Institute of Computer studies & Research.
The panel of speakers included Mr. Ajay Banerjee (GM, Bank of Maharashtra), Mr. T. D. Sankaran (Chief Information security officer, Syndicate Bank), Mr. Harish Shetty (Senior vice president, HDFC bank), Mr. Deepak T.R (Vice president HDFC bank), Mr. Mahesh Sharma (Assistant GM, SBI), and Mr. Ravi Krishnamurthy (Country head, Business operations, SBI life).
The first session presided by Mr. Ajay Banerjee was about challenges involved in implementation of core banking systems, like the data cleaning, risk management, interpersonal issues and customization of the software. Mr. T. D Sankaran in the same session spoke about the current and future trends like RTGS, voice recognition, Retina, thumb recognition and smart cards along with their advantages and limitations. The second session started off with Mr. Harish Shetty talking about how the aligning of the IT strategy was done with the business strategy of HDFC. The next speaker Mr. Deepak shed light on the issues surrounding “Modern Banking- Challenges and Strategies”. The discussion was about business intelligence and how it can be used effectively and efficiently in the banking industry.
Mr. Mahesh Sharma during the last session talked about “Risk management and financial products” where he dealt with the various risks and their mitigation mechanisms. Various financial products like accounts, cards, investments, etc. offered by SBI were also discussed upon. Mr. Ravi Krishnamurthy concluded the entire event by sharing information on Technology trends in banking and insurance industry. He described the customer needs and the future challenges in the banking industry.
All the sessions were highly interactive and the student got a clear and deep insight into the intricacies, the best IT practices & their alignment with the business processes of the leading Indian Banking Institutions.
