I had heard a lot about this movie. But unfortunately it turned out to be not quite what I expected. Part of it was because the movie is made in some foreign tribe language and you need to read the subtitles to understand what they are saying. Shot in the jungles of Mexico, this movie depicts the story of a young man and his struggles in the Maya civilization. These struggles are about his people, his family and his tribe. The plot has a twist in the end and it’s worth a watch for what it stands for.
Directed and produced by Mel Gibson, this movie is distributed by Disney. It also went up as a nominee in the 2006 Academy Awards. The camerawork is brilliant and the shots are exotic and technically challenging. I did not find the soundtrack of the movie out of this world and neither the acting. The movie moves very slowly initially and you are always tense  waiting for something to happen. While watching the movie you feel detached from the plot and only in the end do you realize what the initial words on the screen mean  “A great civilization is not conquered from without until it is destroyed from within”

Very hard to put a value on the movie since it appeals to some and doesn't appeal to others. You need to have a taste for subtle expressions and tastes to enjoy this. Not for an adrenaline, babes and action filled movie lover like me !
