If you don't know what PodCasting is, then get a reality check. It's one of the fastest growing communication tools in the world. Intellectuals, Sports Commentators, Businessmen and even Radio Jockeys are now broadcasting these PodCasts either from their own websites or from commonly shared sites like Odeo, mypodcast.com or switchpod.com.
The idea is simple. It's a blog but in an audio form. Just like your server hosts the blog for you  there are servers that will host the audio clip for you. But since the audio clip consumes more space  after a certain point in time, you need to get a higher bandwidth and more storage on your server , meaning it will cost you. You record the audio clip using any standard software like Audacity, put some nice effects in it so it sounds crisp and not boring. And then you upload it so people can download it and listen to it on their Mp3 players, Ipods, laptops or any other media device.

What makes it better than the others:

  • Have a clear idea of who the audience will be. This will ensure you stick to the point when your PodCast is being recorded.
  • Make is short. Long PodCasts become boring and lose the crispness. Let the audience ask for more. (a 10 min PodCast is a good time)
  • Introduce yourself properly and your guest if any.
  • Talk about topics that you are comfortable on. Talking about the trade policies of Vietnam and how they have changed after the Vietnam war will make no sense unless you have done significant research on the topic and know what you are talking about.
  • Use sounds and music to spice up the audio clip. This goes a long way in making sure your audience has something more than your voice to listen to.

Equipment:

Unlike a misconception, you don't need to have a recording studio to record your PodCasts. A computer with Audacity installed on it and a simple Mic will do the trick.

If you room isn't quiet enough and you are catching trucks and autos, record them in the night. The air is denser and the recording comes out cleaner.

Try to work in a small room without distraction.

Do some dummy recording and hear yourself  you will find a stark difference in what you hear from what you think you sound like.

If a part of you ever wanted to be a Radio Jockey and have your voice heard by people, this is a best hobby to have. Start PodCasting now.

Note:
Even though PodCasting is technically Free and without government obligations (like Blogs  no registrations, no license, etc), as a mature broadcaster, ensure your blogs are not filled with Profanity or abuse. No Direct attack on anyone and try to keep your blogs free from harsh opinions. Make it light, enjoyable and fun to listen to. If you are already PodCasting  please contact PP team ASAP. You could earn royalty from your PodCast as well as share of ad revenue !
